Outdoor LED Lighting Market Surges to $40.64 Billion in 2026, Driven by Smart City Infrastructure Upgrades

2026,07,27
The outdoor LED lighting sector recorded a significant leap in 2026, with the global market expanding from $35.08 billion in 2025 to $40.64 billion—a compound annual growth rate of 15.8%. According to the latest report from The Business Research Company, the market is on track to reach $72.29 billion by 2030, sustained by a CAGR of 15.5%.

Urban infrastructure development remains the primary engine behind this expansion. Municipalities worldwide are modernizing public lighting networks, replacing outdated systems with connected LED solutions that deliver better visibility and lower operational costs. Construction spending in the U.S. alone reached an annualized rate of $2.16 trillion in July 2024, up 6.7% year-over-year, reflecting the scale of infrastructure activity that drives lighting demand.

The Led Street Light segment continues to dominate the landscape. Valued at $13.42 billion in 2025, the category is projected to reach $14.32 billion in 2026 and climb to $21.85 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 7.20%. Cities are not just swapping bulbs—they are deploying adaptive street lighting systems that respond to traffic flow and ambient conditions, enabled by IoT networks and cloud-based management platforms.

Beyond street-level applications, High Mast Light systems are carving out a meaningful share. The global high mast lighting market grew from $1.3 billion in 2025 to $1.38 billion in 2026, with a CAGR of 6.0%. These tall-pole installations—common in highways, ports, stadiums, and industrial zones—are increasingly transitioning from metal halide and high-pressure sodium systems to LED, which delivers 150–180 lumens per watt compared to the 80–120 lm/W typical of legacy fixtures.

Perhaps the most telling trend is the shift toward Customized Pole Solution. As cities pursue smart city agendas, standard off-the-shelf lighting poles no longer suffice. Project specifications now routinely demand tailored pole heights, shapes, and finishes, along with integrated sensors, security cameras, public Wi-Fi, and environmental monitors. Suppliers are responding with modular designs that allow municipalities to configure poles for specific urban contexts—historic districts, coastal zones, or high-traffic commercial corridors. This move away from one-size-fits-all infrastructure reflects a broader recognition: outdoor lighting is no longer just about illumination. It is becoming the physical backbone of connected cities.
